Nigeria’s Education Ministry Denounces False Reports on JAMB’s Role in University Admissions

The Federal Ministry of Education has firmly refuted claims circulating in some media outlets and online platforms suggesting that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, described the reports as “false, baseless, and unauthorized,” emphasizing that no such directive was issued by the Ministry.

“For the avoidance of doubt, JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria,” the Ministry stated.

The Ministry urged prospective students, parents, and educational institutions to disregard the misleading publication and rely exclusively on official communication channels for accurate information regarding admission policies.

Dr. Alausa reaffirmed the Ministry’s continued collaboration with JAMB and other relevant agencies to uphold transparency, fairness, and credibility in Nigeria’s tertiary education system. He stressed that merit and due process remain the guiding principles for all admissions.

The Ministry also cautioned media organizations, bloggers, and online platforms to verify information with official sources before publication, warning that misinformation could cause unnecessary confusion within the education sector.

“There has been no change in the existing role of JAMB, which remains central and indispensable in Nigeria’s tertiary education framework,” the statement concluded.

The public is encouraged to consult the official websites and social media handles of the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for verified updates on educational matters.
