Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has commissioned a newly established science laboratory at LEKCED International School in Jikwoyi, Abuja, pledging support for improved educational infrastructure and access.
Obi was joined at the event by Dr Moses Paul, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chairmanship candidate for the upcoming Federal Capital Territory elections scheduled for February 21, 2026, and Archbishop Leonard Bature Kawas, who leads the school.

Addressing the community, Obi described education as the most reliable pathway to national development, stressing that Nigeria can only become productive, competitive, and secure if its young people are equipped with tools that sharpen their minds and expand opportunities. He reiterated his belief that education must be accessible, functional, and globally competitive, adding that children in Jikwoyi and across Nigeria deserve the same standard of learning available in advanced societies.
To support the school’s new laboratory, Obi announced a donation of N2 million to procure chemicals, reagents, and other essential materials. He also pledged to provide an internet-enabled projector to enhance teaching and learning, saying the facility should serve as a true centre of scientific discovery and practical education.

“Investing in education is investing in human capital, which remains the most valuable asset any society can possess,” Obi said. “A new Nigeria is possible.”
He added that Nigeria must adopt and adapt global educational models to uplift communities and prepare young people for the future.
