Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has announced burial arrangements for former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a London hospital.
The late leaderโs remains will arrive in Katsina by noon on Tuesday, July 15, before proceeding to his hometown, Daura, for burial at 2:00 PM the same day.
Governor Radda, speaking at a press briefing on Monday, expressed heartfelt condolences to Buhariโs family and the nation, describing the late president as a national icon. Meanwhile, preparations are underway in London to facilitate the release of his remains, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila leading a Nigerian delegation to receive the body. They were welcomed by Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar and Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum.
In Daura, mourners have gathered at Buhariโs residence, paying tribute to the former leader, whom they remembered for his humility, discipline, and generosity. Close friend Sulaiman Yarin-Katsina reflected on Buhariโs simplicity and deep connection to his community. Despite heightened security, daily activities continued in the town as dignitaries, including Katsinaโs Deputy Governor Faruk Jobe and APC Chairman Sani Daura, arrived to pay their respects.
Buhari, who served as Nigeriaโs president from 2015 to 2023 and earlier as military head of state (1984โ1985), has been widely mourned as a man of integrity. Condolences have poured in from across the nation as Nigeria prepares to bid farewell to one of its most prominent leaders.
