Adesina Defends Buhari’s Medical Care in UK, Cites Poor Nigerian Healthcare Standards

by Joseph Anthony

Former presidential spokesman Femi Adesina has stated that ex-President Muhammadu Buhari might not have survived if he had relied on Nigerian hospitals for his medical treatment.

Adesina made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Televisionโ€™s special coverage of Buhariโ€™s funeral on Tuesday.

He explained that Buhari had long received medical care in London even before his presidency, with UK doctors well-versed in his health history. Adesina argued that switching to Nigerian hospitals would have been impractical, citing inadequate facilities and expertise in the countryโ€™s healthcare system.

The former editor also addressed critics who questioned why Buhari died abroad, emphasizing that continuity in medical care was crucial for the late presidentโ€™s well-being. His comments have reignited debates about Nigeriaโ€™s struggling health sector and the reliance of the nationโ€™s leaders on foreign medical treatment.
