Iran Executes Man for Alleged Mossad Espionage

Iran’s judiciary announced Wednesday the execution of Pedram Madani, convicted of spying for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency.

In a statement published on Mizan Online, the judiciary said Madani was arrested in 2020-2021 after traveling to Israel—referred to as “the occupied territories”—and accused of transmitting classified information to Mossad operatives in meetings abroad, including in Brussels.

Authorities also charged him with acquiring “illicit wealth” through payments in euros and bitcoin from Israeli intelligence. After a trial, Iran’s Supreme Court upheld his death sentence under charges of “waging war against God” and “corruption on earth”—vague but frequently used accusations in espionage cases.

Madani’s execution follows a pattern of similar cases in Iran. In April, the country executed Mohsen Langarneshin, who was accused of assisting Mossad in the 2022 assassination of an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) colonel in Tehran.

Iran, which does not recognize Israel, has long accused its regional rival of sabotaging its nuclear program and targeting scientists. Tensions have worsened since the Gaza war, with direct military exchanges between the two foes.

Since the 1979 revolution, Iran has framed its hostility toward Israel as part of its support for the Palestinian cause, making counter-espionage a high priority.

This execution underscores Tehran’s zero-tolerance stance on alleged collaboration with Israel, even as international scrutiny of Iran’s human rights record grows.
