The Oyo State Police Command has arrested officials allegedly involved in the shooting of a student along Eruwa-Ibadan Road.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mrs Ngozi Onadeko, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, said that full-scale investigation had been launched into the incident.
An unidentified policeman reportedly shot and injured a student of the Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, Oyo State.
The student, Samuel Akinsuyi, was said to be going to Ibadan from Eruwa last Friday, when the policeman allegedly stopped him during a stop-and-search operation and assaulted him thoroughly before shooting him in the leg.
The South West Coordinator, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Olatunji Adegboye, who confirmed in the incident in a statement on Monday, said the injured student was now battling with paralysis as a result of the shooting.
While lamenting what he described as incessant police brutality, especially against students along Ibadan-Eruwa Road, Adegboye accused the police of cover-up.
But the CP said yesterday that the culprits have been apprehended, adding that they were undergoing a debriefing which will be followed by Orderly Room trial.
The statement read: โThe Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command Ngozi Onadeko Psc has ordered full scale investigation into the events that led to the unfortunate shooting incident of Samuel Akinsuyi โmโ along Eruwa-Ibadan Road on Friday 11/03/2022.
