Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has reinstated Mr. Jonathan Paragua Zamuna as the Chief of Piriga Chiefdom in Lere local government, following a court ruling.
The reinstatement complies with a judgment from the National Industrial Court in Kaduna, which nullified Zamuna’s earlier dismissal by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
The court, on June 14, 2024, declared the removal under section 11 of the Traditional Institutions Law No 21 of 2021 as “null and void” and ordered Zamuna’s return to his position with full benefits.
During the reinstatement ceremony at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Governor Sani emphasized his administration’s commitment to the rule of law, due process, and justice. He congratulated Zamuna and encouraged him to lead without ethno-religious bias, promoting equality among the diverse population of his chiefdom.
Governor Sani reflected on leadership lessons, urging Zamuna to use past experiences to foster peace and unity. He posed reflective questions about the impact of leadership on peace and division within Kaduna State, emphasizing the importance of these considerations for future governance.
Chief Zamuna, in response, expressed gratitude for his reinstatement and highlighted the peaceful coexistence among the 12 ethnic groups in his chiefdom.
