Police authorities in Lagos have made significant arrests in recent days, including a murder suspect, a man found with illegal firearms, and a gang of traffic robbers.

These operations highlight the ongoing efforts of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to curb crime and ensure public safety in the state.

Murder Suspect Apprehended

The NPF announced the arrest of Okeke Johnchris, who is accused of killing William Wisdom following a violent altercation in the Ikoyi area of Lagos last week. According to police spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi, the incident occurred after a heated argument between the two men.

“Okeke allegedly rammed his Lexus saloon car into William, inflicting severe injuries. William was rushed to Gbagada General Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries,” Adejobi stated in a Sunday release.

Police detectives visited the scene, and the deceased’s body was taken to the IDH Morgue in Yaba for an autopsy. Okeke has been taken into custody and is awaiting the conclusion of investigations before being arraigned in court.

Adejobi urged Nigerians to avoid violent confrontations and instead seek legal redress for grievances. “Citizens must avoid taking the law into their own hands,” he emphasized.

Illegal Firearms Seized

In a separate incident, police operatives intercepted a 24-year-old suspect, Wisdom Obi, at the Abule Ado bus stop along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Amuwo Odofin. Obi was riding an unregistered motorcycle when he was stopped for a search.

“Upon searching the suspect, a brownie pistol along with 13 rounds of live ammunition was discovered concealed within an MP3 radio,” Adejobi revealed. The suspect, his motorcycle, and the recovered items were taken into custody and documented as exhibits.

Traffic Robbers Nabbed

In yet another operation, officers from the Orile Iganmu Division of the Lagos Police Command arrested four suspected traffic robbers. The suspects—identified as Kadir Ibrahim, Ifeanyin John, Oduwole Shola, and Rilwan Olajuwon—were caught while attempting to rob passengers of a broken-down vehicle at the Ascon White Sand area of Orile Iganmu.

“The suspects are currently in custody as investigations proceed,” Adejobi confirmed.

Ongoing Efforts to Combat Crime

These arrests underscore the Lagos Police Command’s commitment to tackling crime and maintaining order in the state. From violent crimes to illegal arms possession and traffic robberies, the police are working diligently to address various security challenges.

Adejobi reiterated the importance of public cooperation, urging citizens to report suspicious activities and avoid engaging in or escalating conflicts. “We remain dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all residents,” he said.

As investigations continue, the Lagos Police Command has assured the public that all suspects will face the full weight of the law, reinforcing the message that criminal behavior will not be tolerated.
