The Kebbi State Government has announced its plans to sponsor a mass wedding ceremony for 600 individuals, consisting of 300 grooms and 300 brides.
The government will cover the dowry payment of ₦180,000 for each couple.
Speaking to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday, Suleman Argungu, Chairman of the Mass Wedding Committee, explained that screening committees have been established to verify that all selected couples meet the necessary criteria. The screening process will include pre-marital health checks and an evaluation of the groom’s employment or trade status to ensure he can adequately support his future spouse.
Argungu emphasized that the initiative is designed to benefit orphans, widows, and individuals with special needs, regardless of their ethnic or religious background. This effort aims to provide support and promote social inclusion for vulnerable groups in the state.
