NNPP Takes Action: Senator Kawu and Three Others Suspended for Anti-Party Activities

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has suspended Senator Kawu Sumaila, who represents Kano South Senatorial District, over allegations of anti-party activities and his association with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje.

Senator Kawu was suspended alongside three other party membersโ€”Ali Madakin Gini, Sani Abdullahi Rogo, and Kabiru Alhassan Rurum. The decision was announced by the NNPP leadership in Kano State on Sunday during a press conference addressed by the partyโ€™s state chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa.

Dungurawa stated that the suspended members had violated the partyโ€™s principles by engaging in actions contrary to its ideology. โ€œThese individuals were elected into the National Assembly under the NNPP platform, yet they have chosen to betray the trust placed in them by the party,โ€ he said. โ€œTheir actions contradict the principles and tenets of our party, and as such, we are left with no choice but to take disciplinary action.โ€

The NNPP chairman specifically criticized Senator Kawu for his alleged disloyalty, noting that the party had granted him and the others complimentary tickets during the last elections. Dungurawa expressed disappointment that, despite this support, they had aligned themselves with figures from the opposition party.

โ€œWhat is even more shocking is that key members of the APC were invited to Senator Kawuโ€™s daughterโ€™s wedding, as well as the commissioning of some of his projects in Sumaila Local Government Area. This is a clear indication of where his loyalty lies,โ€ Dungurawa added.

Despite the suspension, Dungurawa left the door open for reconciliation, stating that if the suspended members acknowledged their mistakes and sought forgiveness, the party might reconsider its decision. โ€œIf they realize their errors and come back to the party with genuine remorse, we will consider reinstating them,โ€ he said.

As of the time of reporting, Senator Kawu Sumaila and the other suspended members have not publicly responded to the allegations or the partyโ€™s decision.
