Zelensky Urges Trump to Broker Peace in Ukraine Following Middle East Ceasefire Success

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on U.S. President Donald Trump to help mediate an end to the war in Ukraine, citing Trump’s recent role in brokering a ceasefire in the Middle East.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Zelensky said he had spoken with Trump by phone and encouraged him to apply similar diplomatic efforts to the conflict with Russia. “If a war can be stopped in one region, then surely other wars can be stopped as well — including the Russian war,” Zelensky wrote.

The appeal comes amid a notable thaw in relations between the two leaders, who clashed publicly during a contentious televised meeting at the White House in February. Since then, Trump has referred to Zelensky as a “nice guy” and reiterated his administration’s support for Ukraine, which has been resisting a full-scale Russian invasion since 2022.

The two leaders also held a brief meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September, signaling a shift toward more constructive engagement.

Zelensky’s outreach reflects growing international interest in a negotiated resolution to the war, now entering its fourth year. While no formal peace talks are currently underway, Kyiv has continued to seek diplomatic channels alongside its military efforts.

The White House has not yet issued a statement regarding the latest call.
