Manchester United continued their Premier League resurgence under manager Ruben Amorim with a thrilling 4–2 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford on Saturday, marking their third consecutive league win and lifting them to fourth in the standings.
United, buoyed by last weekend’s landmark win at Anfield, started brightly as Matheus Cunha opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a precise strike into the bottom corner—his first goal for the club. Casemiro doubled the lead ten minutes later with a deflected effort that wrong-footed the Brighton defence.
Bryan Mbeumo extended United’s advantage just after the hour mark, finishing a well-worked move to put the hosts in control. The forward, who also scored against Liverpool, capped off a standout performance with a second goal deep into stoppage time, sealing the win after Brighton had threatened a late comeback.
Danny Welbeck, facing his former club, sparked Brighton’s fightback with a sublime free kick, and Charalampos Kostoulas added a header in added time to set up a tense finale. But with Brighton pushing for an equaliser, Mbeumo struck again, firing into the roof of the net to secure all three points.
“It hasn’t been easy at the start,” Mbeumo told Sky Sports. “It’s a new environment, a new expectation, but I think with the link-up with the team, everything is going the right way.”
Brighton, who have beaten United more times than any other side since the start of the 2021–22 season, posed a significant test for Amorim’s side. Early pressure saw Welbeck force a fine save from Senne Lammens, but United’s attacking efficiency proved decisive.
Cunha’s goal added to his growing reputation as a long-range specialist, now leading the Premier League in goals from outside the box since last season. Casemiro and Mbeumo’s contributions further highlighted United’s improved cohesion and attacking depth.
Despite defensive lapses that allowed Brighton back into the game, United held firm to record their first three-match winning streak in the league since August 2024.
“We put ourselves in a really difficult position,” Welbeck said post-match. “We got two goals and were close to maybe getting a third. It didn’t happen, but it is a good sign we showed character.”
United will look to build on their momentum as the season progresses, with Amorim’s tactical imprint beginning to yield consistent results.
