Iga Swiatek Dominates Wimbledon Final with Historic Double Bagel Victory

Iga Swiatek made history on Saturday, demolishing American Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in just 57 minutes to become the first Polish player to win a Wimbledon singles title.

The ruthless performance marked the first time in over a century that a player suffered a double bagel defeat in a Wimbledon final, with Anisimova becoming the first Grand Slam finalist to endure such a fate since Steffi Graf’s 1988 French Open triumph.

The 24-year-old Swiatek, seeded eighth, capitalized on Anisimova’s nerves, leaving the Centre Court crowd stunned by her dominance. Despite having never advanced past the Wimbledon quarter-finals before this year, Swiatek delivered a flawless tournament run, dropping only two games in her semi-final against Belinda Bencic before an even more commanding display in the final.

This victory marks Swiatek’s sixth Grand Slam title and extends her perfect record in major finals. She also became the fastest player to reach 100 Grand Slam match wins since Serena Williams in 2004. Additionally, she is now the youngest player since Williams in 2002 to win majors on all three surfaces—clay, grass, and hard courts.

“Everything feels surreal right now,” Swiatek admitted after the match. “I never even dreamed of winning Wimbledon because it felt too far out of reach. I’m still processing this moment.”

For Anisimova, the 13th seed, the match was a brutal disappointment. Struggling with unforced errors and winning just 24 points, she failed to mount any resistance against Swiatek’s relentless play. Fighting back tears during the trophy ceremony, she thanked the crowd for their support. “I wish I could have given you a better match today,” she said. “But I’ll keep working hard, and I believe I’ll be back here again.”

Swiatek’s triumph caps a remarkable rise, silencing doubts about her ability to transition from clay to grass. With this victory, she solidifies her place among tennis’s elite, adding Wimbledon to her already impressive legacy.
