Galatasaray clinched their 24th Turkish title with a resounding 3-1 victory against Konyaspor, sealing their triumph three points ahead of arch-rivals Fenerbahce, who have been chasing a league win for a decade.

The win marked Galatasaray’s second consecutive title, capping off a season filled with both on-field prowess and off-field controversies. Argentine forward Mauro Icardi stole the show with a brace, while Swiss-born Turkish midfielder Berkan Kutlu contributed another goal, sparking jubilant celebrations among Galatasaray fans in Istanbul and beyond.

Throughout the season, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce dominated the Superlig, with Galatasaray finishing on top with an impressive 102 points, just edging out Fenerbahce, who ended the campaign with 99 points after a commanding 6-0 victory over Istanbulspor.

Trabzonspor secured the third spot with 67 points following a 4-2 win against Ankaragucu.

Galatasaray’s journey to the title saw them lose only two league matches, scoring 92 goals while conceding 26. Meanwhile, Fenerbahce experienced just one defeat but registered six draws compared to Galatasaray’s three.

Icardi emerged as the league’s top scorer with 24 goals, surpassing Fenerbahce’s Bosnian forward Edin Dzeko, who netted 21 times.

However, Galatasaray’s triumph was not without its share of controversy. The season witnessed incidents like the arrest of Ankaragucu’s president for assaulting a referee, the postponement of the Super Cup final between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, and fan violence during a match involving Trabzonspor.

Despite the tumultuous events, Galatasaray emerged victorious, solidifying their status as one of Turkey’s football powerhouses.
