The Katsina State Police Command has arrested one Abubakar Shafiu, who claimed to be an immigration officer, alongside three other civilians with three trucks loaded with 164 cows suspected to have been rustled and headed for Buni Yadi in Yobe State.

The Command Spokesman, Superintendent Gambo Isah while parading the four suspects, said they were arrested based on credible investigation by the police and custom officers on duty.

According to him, the suspects and the loaded trailers were from Zurmi in Zamfara State.

He further noted that Zurmi has been a serious hideout for criminals, especially bandits and cattle rustlers, assuring that investigation into the matter will be thorough and that anyone found wanton would face the wrath of the law.

While speaking to news men, one of the arrested suspect who claimed to be an immigration officer, Inspector Abubakar Shafiu, said they were moving the cows away from their area because of banditry attacks on their community, adding that before embarking on the trip, they had obtained permission from the Zamfara Emirate Council and Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeder Association, before embarking on the journey.

Shafiu further told newsmen that he was officially admitted to a one month leave by the immigration authorities but couldn’t present any document to prove his identity or justify his claims.
