Court Throws Out Case Against #EndBadGovernance Protesters

A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a lawsuit filed against the #Endbadgovernance protesters, as well as the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Chiefs of Army and Defence Staff.

The suit, brought by 17 Nigerian citizens in response to the recent nationwide protests, was struck out for lack of diligent prosecution. Justice Peter Lifu terminated the case on Thursday due to the absence of both the plaintiffs and the defendants, who also lacked legal representation.

The court was scheduled to hear the case, but Justice Lifu expressed surprise at the failure of the 17 plaintiffs to appear or be represented by legal counsel.

The plaintiffs, representing the six geo-political zones of Nigeria, had sought a court order to halt the protests. They argued that the demonstrations infringed on their fundamental rights, including freedom of movement, human dignity, property ownership, economic and social development, and national peace and security. They also requested the court to compel the DSS, IGP, army chiefs, and the AGF to enforce their rights by restraining the protesters.
