The Niger State Police Command has apprehended three suspects for allegedly parading themselves as police officers.
The suspects are Abubakar Musa, 25; Michael Joshua, 24; and Nehemiah Tswanya, 25.
They were trailed and arrested by a team of policemen attached to the Lapai Division following a tip-off by public spirited individuals.
It was learnt that the suspects were students of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, and Federal Polytechnic, Bida.
It was gathered in Minna that the suspects disguised themselves as police officers to arrest one Sheba Adamu, who was described as one of their accomplices.
They reportedly abducted Adamu for hijacking a scam meant to fleece an American of N15m on the pretext of supplying him computer gadgets.
One of the suspects, Musa, told newsmen that they abducted Adamu for refusing to release the contact of the foreigner, thereby denying them the opportunity of making the said amount of money.
โAdamu is one of us in this business, he cannot deny it; we nearly got this money but he blocked our chances of getting the N15m from the white man and that was why we disguised as police officers to abduct him,โ Musa said.
The commandโs Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, who confirmed the incident, said the suspects were arrested on May 18, 2019, at Lapai.
Items recovered from the suspects included three fake police identity cards, one forged police letterhead, $1,000 suspected to be counterfeit and one Mercedes Benz car.
Abubakar said the matter would be charged to court as soon as investigations were completed.
