England head coach Eddie Jones will no longer travel by public transport after saying he was physically and verbally abused on his way back from Scotland

England coach Eddie Jones was physically and verbally abused on the train as he travelled home from Scotland after his teamโ€™s Six Nations defeat, the BBC reported on Wednesday.

The Australian, who was in a standard class carriage from Edinburgh to Manchester the morning after Englandโ€™s 25-13 loss to the Scots at Murrayfield on Saturday, said he would not use public transport again.

โ€œIโ€™ll make sure I wonโ€™t in future. Itโ€™s as simple as that,โ€ Jones told the BBC.

โ€œIโ€™m a human being. I donโ€™t consider myself any different from anyone else, so for me to travel on public transport I thought was okay,โ€ Jones said.

โ€œI canโ€™t because it was shown what happens when I do. Thatโ€™s the world we live in. I was massively surprised. It wasnโ€™t comfortable.โ€

Former Scotland captain Gavin Hastings had said supporters of Englandโ€™s opponents want to โ€œrub his face in the dirtโ€ and the former Australia and Japan coach questioned those comments.

โ€œIt magnifies that if youโ€™re in a position of responsibility youโ€™ve got to be careful what you say,โ€ Jones said.

โ€œBecause if you talk about hate and you talk about rubbing peoplesโ€™ nose in the dirt and all those sorts of things, it incites certain behaviours and are they the sorts of behaviours that we want to see?โ€

Jones, who has led England to 24 victories in 26 games in charge, attended Manchester Unitedโ€™s Premier League game against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday before travelling back to London.

โ€œItโ€™s part of the challenge. As an Australian coaching England, there were always going to be challenges and thatโ€™s just one of them,โ€ Jones said.
