A man was arrested on a charge of murder after killing his friend for
drinking too much alcohol while sharing a bottle with others, according
to police in Zimbabwe.
Bulawayo police said that they have arrested 22-year-old Lwazi Great
Mtetwa, after being accused of killing 23-year-old Thabo Michael Thebe,
while they were drinking alcohol with eight friends.
Mtetwa was charged with one count of murder.
According to the police investigation, around 9:00 p.m., Mtetwa and
Thebe were sharing a bottle of alcohol with eight friends at a home when
the two began to fight.
Witnesses at the scene told police that the two argued over the fast
pace of Thebeโs drinking, leaving little alcohol for his friends.
Mtetwa left the home, promising to return and teach Thebe a lesson.
Mtetwa went to his home and returned a few minutes later, armed with a
knife.
Mtetwa confronted Thebe and the fight resumed. During the struggle,
Mtetwa pulled out his knife and stabbed Thebe in the chest and neck.
Thebe was pronounced dead at the scene. Mtetwa told investigators that
he acted in self defense. However, Mtetwa was convicted of murder and
sentenced to serve 20 years in prison.
