A
man tried to save some money by buying a large amount of rice, but his
savings flew out the window after getting a fine for driving with a
dangerously loaded vehicle, according to police in the United Kingdom.

The Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire road policing unit said that they
stopped the vehicle after officers noticed something weighing it down.

When they looked inside, they noticed numerous bags of basmati rice.
When the driver was questioned, he told officers that he found cheap
rice and decided to stock up.

He paid $20 per bag, and loaded 2,000 pounds of rice in his car.

Officers stopped him in Dunstable Road on Friday night. He was told to
split the load of rice or find another suitable vehicle. The driver
ignored the officersโ€™ warning and continued home.

The driver was stopped a second time several blocks later, and was
dragged to a weighing station, where he was given a $400 fine for
dangerous driving.

The driver then arranged for a friend to pick him up and split the load of rice.

“If you need to carry 800 kilos of rice, choose a suitable vehicle. This
isn’t it. Dangerously overweight,” police wrote on Twitter.
