Several food stamps recipients in Maine, have complained that the
customer support number listed on the back of their benefits cards leads
them to a sex line.
The recipients learned about the sex line after calling to check their available balance.
A government official said that the food stamps office is aware of the
problem and are working to change the number on the back of the cards.
The customer support line and the sex line are off with one digit. Lj
Langelier of Lewiston, notice the mistake when he went to check the
balance on his electronic benefits transfer (EBT) card.
Instead of hearing his available balance, a female voice declared that
he has reached America’s hottest phone line. At first, Langelier thought
that he had misdialed, but he continued to receive the same message
when he called again.
The government agreed to replace the misprinted cards, and strengthen its review process to avoid such errors in the future.
