Many women and girls have been forced to become street beggars as the Boko Haram insurgency gathers momentum in North-East Nigeria.
This was revealed by the President of the University of Maiduguri Muslim Women Association (UMMWA), Hajiya Hassana Ibrahim Waziri.
Waziri, who spoke spoke at a workshop organised for domestic and casual women workers of the institution, said it is alarming that an increasing number of women and girls are begging on the streets of Maiduguri, capital city of Borno state.
She blamed the development on the Boko Haram insurgency, adding that UMMWA will work to discourage the trend.
