On September 11, 2014, family, friends and well-wishers gathered at Harbour Point, Victoria Island to pay tribute to the late Doctor Ameyo Adadevoh who lost her life on August 19, 2014, battling Ebola Virus Disease.

Some of the popular faces who attended the event included former Lagos State First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and Nigeria Federal House of Representatives member Abike Dabiri. Others included entertainment entrepreneur Guy Murray-Bruce, Cecil Hammond and TV host Adaure Achumba.

The solemn event was officiated by Holy Cross Cathedral and lasted a little over two hours. Emotions ripped through close friends and family members who fought hard to hold back tears, especially when several memorable photos of the Doctor’s pastimes were splashed across the two main screens in the hall.

‘We’ve seen all the sentiments expressed, we’ve seen the touching tributes from all across the world, one thing we can say is that her character remained intact’, the officiating minister said while delivering his sermon.

Several close friends and family members were also given the chance to give touching tributes;

Dr Bode Kadiri (who had known Adadevoh as far back as Primary school) said ‘She always had a lion’s heart – Fearless, loving and courageous’.

Another close Doctor Friend noted; ‘She was like a prism, different sides to different people. We can be sad but why should we be angry that someone is in heaven?’

Dr Yeki Johnson charged guests explaining that Nigerians had a collective effort to fight for it’s country. ‘If Ameyo hadn’t risked her life to stop Sawyer and saved millions, imagine what would have happened by now?’, he asked.

Dr Adadevoh’s only son Bankole Cardoso in a vote of thanks noted ‘My mum paid the ultimate price to contain the spread of Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria and as the accolades grow louder; my heart swells with equal measure of great pride and great pain’.

Adadevoh will be buried on Friday September 12 at a private family funeral.
