Adedayo Liadi, the Director of Special Duties, Guild of Nigerian Dancers (GOND), on Tuesday decried the dearth of professional dancers in the country.

Liadi, who performed the Olori-Oko dance in the music video by Infinity, made the observation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He said that there were less than 200 professional dancers in Nigeria at the moment, adding that non professionals had taken to dancing for money.

Liadi, the Chief Executive Officer of Ijodee Dance Company (IDC), said that GOND had met with corporate organisations on the use dancers to promote their products.

โ€œThe meeting is to streamline the activities of our association and ensure that only professional dancers are engaged in such projects.

โ€œProfessional dancers should speak with one voice to avoid being exploited by these organisations,โ€™โ€™ he said.
Liadi also regretted that there was no dance school in Nigeria, saying that professional dancers were currently receiving training abroad.

โ€œInterested youths, who want to be professional dancers, should be physically, mentally, emotional and spiritually prepared for it.

โ€œThe road to professional dancing is not easy, but through perseverance one will make it,โ€™โ€™ he said.
