The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has charged the Ministry of Lands and Survey in Enugu state to adopt the Geographic Information System (GIS) as a tool for land administration to help in tackling the menace of land and property fraud in the state and its environs.

Oshodi Johnson, Head of the Enugu Zonal Office who gave the charge on Friday June 11, 2021 while receiving a delegation from the Ministry of Land and Survey, Enugu state, led by the Commissioner, Victor Nnam, observed that the Geographical Information System (GIS) will make it easier to certify the true owners of properties, verify the current ownership, or identify the exact location of land in event of doubt or scam.
“I wish to state that Enugu state government should consider asking that all lands in Enugu be recertified and re-registered as have been done in other states. This process will not only make the commission’s duties easier, it will also make it easier for the ministry to identify lands since links will be created and developed between textual data (Land and legal registrations) and parcels of land. In fact, it will also be a great means of generating internal revenue for the state,” he said.
The Zonal Head thanked the visitors “for the relationship we have enjoyed with you over the years especially in the aspect of providing us with information in cases of land and property fraud in Enugu and the old Anambra area”.
In his remarks, Nnam thanked the Zonal Head for his advice and assured the commission of his ministry’s continuous support in tackling land fraud cases in the state.worth
