Spain substitute Mikel Oyarzabal secured a dramatic 86th-minute winner to lead his team to a 2-1 victory over England in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday, earning Spain their record fourth European title.
Oyarzabal clinched the win by finishing off a swift counter-attack, sealing Spain’s perfect tournament run with victories in all seven matches.
The first half was marked by caution, with Spain dominating possession while England managed the only shot on target. Just two minutes into the second half, Spain broke the deadlock. Teenager Lamine Yamal created space on the right wing and provided an assist to fellow winger Nico Williams, who scored the opening goal.
England, trailing for the fourth consecutive match in the tournament, equalized in the 73rd minute through substitute Cole Palmer. However, Oyarzabal’s late goal dashed England’s hopes of securing their first major international trophy in 58 years.
