A visiting United States Congressional delegation has commended Nigeria’s recent security actions, highlighting the rescue of 100 Catholic school children and the establishment of a joint task force between both nations as signs of progress in tackling terrorism and violence.
Riley Moore, a member of the delegation, described a meeting with Nigeria’s National Security Advisor, Nuhu Ribadu, as “productive and positive,” noting that concrete steps were discussed to strengthen cooperation. According to Moore, if fully implemented, these measures could enhance security nationwide, disrupt terrorist organizations in the northeast, and address the killing of Christians in the Middle Belt – a concern he emphasized was shared by President Donald Trump.
Moore expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian government for the successful rescue operation, calling it “a positive demonstration of the government’s increasing response to the security situation” and evidence of commitment to Tinubu’s emergency declaration on national security.
The delegation reported that Washington’s sense of urgency was well received in Abuja, with Moore stating that “a cooperative security framework is within sight.” He pointed to the newly established Nigeria–US joint task force as a strong example of bilateral collaboration.
While acknowledging that “much work still needs to be done,” Moore stressed that progress is being made and emphasized the importance of translating Nigeria’s openness into concrete action. He concluded by reaffirming the US delegation’s commitment to continued dialogue and partnership, offering blessings to “the great people of Nigeria.”
