Eight of the world’s top men’s tennis players will compete for a $1 million prize pool at the MGM Slam exhibition in March, organisers announced.
The event, now in its third year, will use a 10-point tiebreak knockout format. Headlining the field is world number six and top-ranked American Taylor Fritz, joined by compatriot Tommy Paul, ranked 20th.
Other participants include Norway’s Casper Ruud, Australia’s Nick Kyrgios, Brazil’s Joao Fonseca, France’s Gael Monfils, Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti, and Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik.
High-Profile Showcase
The MGM Slam has previously drawn major stars, including a match between Aryna Sabalenka and Naomi Osaka last year, and one of Rafael Nadal’s final appearances before retirement.
This year’s edition comes amid growing criticism of tennis’s relentless tour schedule. In March, the Professional Tennis Players’ Association (PTPA) filed a lawsuit against the ATP and WTA, calling the crowded calendar “unsustainable.”
Exhibitions Continue Despite Criticism
Despite concerns, exhibition matches remain popular. World number one Jannik Sinner and second-ranked Carlos Alcaraz – winners of nine of the last ten Grand Slam titles – are set to meet in South Korea in January, just eight days before the Australian Open.
The MGM Slam has previously featured legends such as Roger Federer, Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Maria Sharapova, cementing its reputation as one of the sport’s premier showcase events.
