Red Bull’s Max Verstappen delivered a flawless performance at the U.S. Grand Prix on Sunday, leading every lap from pole position to claim victory and significantly reduce his deficit in the Formula One championship standings.
The four-time world champion capped off a perfect weekend at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas, having also won Saturday’s sprint race. Verstappen’s commanding display comes as McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, the current championship leader, finished fifth in the main event.
Piastri’s teammate and closest rival, Lando Norris, secured second place after overtaking Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc—last year’s winner—five laps from the finish. The result tightens the title race, with Piastri now holding a 14-point lead over Norris and a 40-point cushion over Verstappen, who had trailed by 104 points at the end of August.
