Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday received a delegation from the University of Jos, led by Vice Chancellor Professor Tanko Ishaya, in a strategic meeting aimed at fostering partnership ahead of the 27th edition of the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA), scheduled to take place in Jos, Plateau State.
The visit, which included a team of consultants coordinating preparations for the games, focused on the significance of hosting the national event in Plateau Stateโa region currently undergoing efforts to resolve long-standing conflicts and promote youth engagement and economic revitalization.
According to the delegation, the NUGA Games represent a vital opportunity to harness the power of sports for peacebuilding, education, and community development. They sought collaboration with Atiku in areas aligned with his longstanding advocacy for youth empowerment and educational advancement.
โAs founder of the American University of Nigeria (AUN), I understand the transformative role sports can play in shaping young minds and fostering unity,โ Atiku said during the meeting.
In recognition of his contributions to education and youth development, the University of Jos formally decorated Atiku as one of the Patrons of Jos 2025 NUGA. He expressed gratitude for the honour and pledged his full support for the initiative.
