Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, one of Nigeria’s most respected evangelical leaders and the Founder and President of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association.

In a statement released shortly after the news broke, Obi described Ukpai’s passing as a profound loss to the nation and the Christian community. “I have just received with deep sadness the news of the passing on to glory of one of Nigeria’s most revered clerics,” Obi said, extending his condolences to Ukpai’s family, friends, and congregation.

Rev. Ukpai was widely known for his decades-long commitment to preaching the Gospel, healing the sick, and uplifting lives across Nigeria and beyond. Through his ministry, he organized large-scale crusades, healing services, and leadership conferences that drew thousands and inspired spiritual renewal.

“Dr. Uma Ukpai devoted his life to preaching the Gospel, healing, and uplifting souls,” Obi noted. “His work brought hope and transformation to countless lives.”

Obi praised Ukpai’s legacy of faith, compassion, and national service, describing him as a spiritual leader whose impact transcended religious boundaries. “May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” he said. “My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.”

Rev. Ukpai’s death marks the end of an era in Nigerian evangelism, with tributes continuing to pour in from religious leaders, public figures, and citizens across the country.

Details of memorial arrangements are expected to be announced by the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association in the coming days.
