Former presidential candidate Peter Obi on Tuesday, October 14, commissioned a series of educational infrastructure projects in Awka North, Anambra State, praising Honourable Lilian Orogbu for her exemplary leadership and dedication to community development.
The event marked Obi’s third visit to commission projects facilitated by Hon. Orogbu, who represents Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. The projects included seven newly constructed classroom blocks at a secondary school in Achalla and six additional blocks at Okpuno, both aimed at strengthening access to quality education in the region.
Speaking at the commissioning, Obi reiterated his long-standing belief that education is the most critical investment any society can make. “The most certain way to lift people out of poverty and build a productive nation is through investment in education and human capital development,” he said. “Nations that have prioritised education are those that have achieved lasting growth and stability.”
He commended Hon. Prof. Lilian Orogbu for her sustained efforts in attracting development projects to her constituency, describing her as a model of purposeful representation. “This is the kind of leadership we must continue to encourage—one that puts people first and places education at the heart of national progress,” Obi stated.
The commissioning ceremony drew community leaders, educators, and residents who lauded the initiative as a significant step toward improving learning conditions and empowering youth in the area.
Obi’s remarks underscored the broader call for elected officials to prioritize education and grassroots development, especially in underserved regions. The newly inaugurated facilities are expected to enhance learning outcomes and contribute to long-term socio-economic growth in Awka North.
