Manchester United stunned Liverpool with a dramatic 2–1 victory at Anfield on Sunday, ending a nine-year winless run at the iconic ground and delivering a significant blow to the reigning champions’ Premier League title ambitions.
Harry Maguire powered home an 84th-minute header to seal the win, capping a resilient United performance that marked their first back-to-back league victories under manager Ruben Amorim. The result lifts United to ninth in the table with 13 points, while Liverpool, now on a four-match losing streak across all competitions, drop to fourth with 15 points—four adrift of leaders Arsenal.
United struck early through Bryan Mbeumo, who latched onto Amad Diallo’s flick and fired past Alisson just a minute into the match. Liverpool responded with relentless pressure, and Cody Gakpo hit the woodwork three times before finally equalising in the 78th minute, tapping in Federico Chiesa’s low cross. But Maguire’s late header from a Bruno Fernandes delivery silenced the home crowd and sent the visiting fans into raptures.
Elsewhere in north London, Aston Villa continued their resurgence with a 2–1 comeback win over Tottenham Hotspur. Emiliano Buendia came off the bench to score the decisive goal, extending Villa’s unbeaten run to eight matches in all competitions.
Tottenham took an early lead through Rodrigo Bentancur’s close-range finish in the fifth minute, but Villa responded in the 37th when Morgan Rogers unleashed a dipping right-foot strike that beat Guglielmo Vicario. Both sides created chances after the interval, but it was Buendia who settled the contest, curling a low shot into the far corner to secure all three points.
The win moves Villa up to 10th in the standings with 12 points, while Spurs, suffering their second league defeat of the season, fall to sixth.
