France awarded its highest civic distinction, the Legion of Honour, to 589 individuals on Sunday, including feminist survivor Gisele Pelicot and multi-talented artist Pharrell Williams.
The prestigious list, announced ahead of Franceโs July 14 national day, recognized Pelicot as a knight of the Legion of Honour for her bravery in exposing systemic abuse, while Williams was honored for his contributions to music and fashion.

Pelicot, 72, became a global symbol of resilience after testifying in a landmark 2024 trial against her ex-husband, who orchestrated her repeated drugging and rape by multiple men over ten years.
Her testimony not only brought international attention but also spurred reforms in Franceโs rape laws. Despite her newfound prominence, Pelicot has remained out of the public eye, focusing on a memoir detailing her ordeal, set for release in 2026.

Meanwhile, Pharrell Williams, 52, was celebrated for his groundbreaking influence across music, fashion, and culture. The Grammy-winning artist, now Louis Vuittonโs menโs creative director, drew A-list crowdsโincluding Jay-Z, Beyoncรฉ, and filmmakers Spike Lee and Steve McQueenโto his recent Paris showcase.
Other distinguished honorees included actress Lรฉa Drucker, singer Sylvie Vartan, writer Marc Levy, and 99-year-old Holocaust survivor Yvette Levy, alongside former government officials and leading legal figures. The ceremony highlighted Franceโs recognition of diverse achievements, from activism to artistic innovation.
