France awarded its highest civic distinction, the Legion of Honour, to 589 individuals on Sunday, including feminist survivor Gisele Pelicot and multi-talented artist Pharrell Williams.

The prestigious list, announced ahead of Franceโ€™s July 14 national day, recognized Pelicot as a knight of the Legion of Honour for her bravery in exposing systemic abuse, while Williams was honored for his contributions to music and fashion.

Pelicot, 72, became a global symbol of resilience after testifying in a landmark 2024 trial against her ex-husband, who orchestrated her repeated drugging and rape by multiple men over ten years.

Her testimony not only brought international attention but also spurred reforms in Franceโ€™s rape laws. Despite her newfound prominence, Pelicot has remained out of the public eye, focusing on a memoir detailing her ordeal, set for release in 2026.
