The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a landslide victory in Lagos State’s local government elections, winning all chairmanship positions and nearly every councillorship seat.
According to the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), the ruling party claimed 375 out of 376 councillorship seats across the state’s 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas.
The results solidify the APC’s dominance in Lagos politics, reinforcing its control at the grassroots level. The election, held on Saturday, saw a relatively low voter turnout, with opposition parties raising concerns over the fairness of the process. However, LASIEC officials maintained that the exercise was free and credible.
Political analysts say the outcome underscores the APC’s entrenched influence in Nigeria’s commercial hub, where it has held power for over two decades. The party’s sweeping victory comes ahead of the 2027 general elections, positioning it strongly for future contests.
