Ünal Üstel, who was appointed as the Prime Minister of the TRNC, saluted the start of the National Garden Project with the Republican Assembly and Presidency campus, which caused public reactions and actions, and said, “Turkey has no intention of annexing this island.”
Stating that the construction of the project was requested from Turkey by the TRNC administrators, Üstel described this campus as ‘an important step for institutionalization’.
Stating that “The Republic Assembly building, which has been transformed from a cigarette factory, has completed its mission”, Üstel said that the need for a new Presidency and Parliament building has been determined many times.
Ustal, referring to the actions and reactions regarding the Presidential Complex, said, “The approaches and behaviors of those who oppose the new campus are unacceptable.
These objections cannot be reconciled with goodwill,” he said.
Here is the description:
With great enthusiasm, I greet the start of the National Garden project with the Republican Assembly and Presidency campus, which will further strengthen the foundations of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and reinforce the steps taken towards its institutionalization.
Due to an operation I had, I will be abroad until the end of the week. Our country’s administrators demanded the construction of new buildings for the “TRNC Presidency” and “Republican Assembly” from the authorities of the Republic of Turkey.
Such a request was made in order to contribute to the institutionalization of the TRNC and to leave permanent works in our country. It is a fact that the existing Presidency and Republic Assembly buildings are inadequate and it is accepted by many.
The land where the Republic Assembly and Presidency buildings will be built side by side will preserve its green area feature, and there will also be many cultural and sports complexes here.
It is a great event that the people of Nicosia will attain a beauty that they are longing for, and that such a versatile piece of art is brought to our country. The fact that the company, which has undertaken the tender for the construction of the buildings, will complete the project by working with Turkish Cypriot enterprises will also add an added value to the country’s economy.
Those who opposed the projects of “Bringing Anatolian water to the TRNC” or “Building a Pandemic Hospital” in the past used them and were satisfied, and realized that their objections were wrong.
We think it will be the same in this project, again those who object will see how necessary this giant project is and will again misunderstand.
In recent days, I see that some separatist attitudes have started to be exhibited again, using this extremely important project for our country, the construction of which has begun.
It is extremely grave and sad for this country to see the opposition parties in the parliament join these separatist and divisive attitudes and approaches.
The Republic Assembly and the Presidency campus, the construction of which has begun, is an indicator of the existence of the TRNC and our will to exist as two separate states in the new world order.
This campus is an important step for the institutionalization of the TRNC. The Republic Assembly building, which was transformed from a cigarette factory, has completed its mission.
The fact that this building has completed its mission is a fact accepted by all political parties in our country and the issue of constructing a new building is an issue that has been brought up many times.
In this context, although land determinations were made, no concrete and advanced step could be taken. When we look at the situation in terms of the Presidential building and work offices, it is an issue that has been brought to the agenda during the period of every President sitting in this office, that this place is insufficient and that something needs to be done.
While this is the case and the need for a new Presidency and Assembly building has been determined many times, it is not possible to understand the opposition to the construction of the Republic Assembly and the Presidency campus today.
The approaches and behaviors of those who oppose the new campus are unacceptable. The project of creating a new campus and green space is a project requested by our government and financed by the Republic of Turkey.
In short, this project was requested by the TRNC state authorities and supported, as always, by the Motherland Turkey government. The new Parliament and Presidency building, which has been brought to the agenda many times by previous governments, is now coming to life.
Those who oppose such a comprehensive project that will come to life and will further strengthen the TRNC and contribute in political, social, cultural and sports fields obviously have a hidden agenda. Motherland Turkey is always with the Turkish Cypriots and will continue to stand by it.
Nobody should try to position the Motherland Turkey differently from what it is and complain about it to the world. The Motherland Republic of Turkey is the assurance of peace and tranquility in Cyprus.
He is always a supporter of the Turkish Cypriot people. Interestingly, those who opposed the flow of water from Turkey yesterday are still on the scene today. Water came to our country from Turkey, is it bad?
These segments were also against the construction of an emergency hospital, this hospital was built, did it go bad? They are also against the electricity coming from Turkey by cable, we will try to bring it too.
When we look at the events in the last days, we have seen once again that there are those who want to make a difference between the TR and the TRNC on this island and those who are uncomfortable with Turkey being on the side of the Turkish Cypriots.
The development of the TRNC with the contribution of Turkey and the increase in the welfare and happiness of the Turkish Cypriot people have always disturbed them. It will continue to do so because there are unbreakable and strong ties between Turkey and the TRNC.
These ties will enable the TRNC to further develop, strengthen and move forward. With the support of our motherland Turkey, our efforts to establish ourselves in the world and to institutionalize and develop in this land will continue. This new investment is an indication of that.
I think the call to ‘know the TRNC’ made by the President of Turkey, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the UN General Assembly for the recognition of the TRNC, is the best response to those who support this and similar actions.
Turkey has no intention of annexing this island. The only wish of us and Turkey is for the Turkish Cypriots to become institutionalized and permanent in these lands under their own state and flag.
As the government, we will continue to work for this.
