A suspected armed robber was on Tuesday, shot dead by operatives of the Delta State Police Command in Warri.
A car snatcher, Richard Tobi who was arrested on Wednesday, March 2, at the popular Mammy Market, Effurun in Uvwie council area of the state, has also been remanded.
In a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, said a four-man armed robbery gang operating with a minibus with registration number: Delta DSZ 912 XA was intercepted by a patrol team attached to โBโ Division Warri, along Okere Market Junction, in the commercial city.
He said the suspects were chased to nearby McIver Market while exchanging gunfire, but they โalighted from the vehicle and ran into the crowd.โ
However, one of the suspects, Christopher, who sustained bullet wounds, was held and he โconfessed being a member of the armed robbery gang that robbed a POS lady at Osubi-Orerokpe earlier in the day.
โSuspect was taken to General Hospital, Warri where he died while receiving treatment. The mini bus, one expended cartridge, two (2) POS machines, two female bags containing two Zenith bank ATM cards, one driverโs license bearing Ogagbe Godspower, one(1) power bank, and a bible were recovered.โ
On the other hand, a Toyota Hilux with registration number UYY 210 GT, suspected to have been stolen from Akwa Ibom and different vehicle plate numbers were recovered from the suspected car thief who hails from Obibo in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
โSuspect has been charged to court and remanded in prison custody,โ the statement added.
