The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has enjoined Christians to reflect on the essence of Easter as a season of love demonstrated through the crucifixion of Jesus for the redemption of mankind.
Governor Emmanuel made this known during a Good Friday Service held to mark Easter celebrations on Friday at United Evangelical Church, Four Towns, Uyo.
The Governor emphasized that Christians should ponder on the lessons of love and sacrifice demonstrated by Christ who surrendered his life, noting that there is need for Christians to uphold these lessons for the future generations.
โChristians these days donโt have time to teach us about the significance, if you check the preaching of last Sunday, so many churches especially the modern churches did not teach on the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ, how can you forget such a significant day?
โI told some of my friends that the first thing one should do on a Good Friday is to celebrate the love of Christ, I donโt think so many of us would have accepted it. If many people cannot worship God with their money, I wonder how people will worship God with their only son, itโs not easy.
โI thank God for the significance, I appreciate churches that make people know the significance of Easter. It should be a significant period for someone accepting to die for my sin and someone giving me life, the Bible says he superimposed his life upon the condemnation of sin and death โ.
The state Chief Executive assured Akwa Ibom people of his commitment to building a strong economy for the state, adding that most of his projects are to be completed within this year.
In his homily, the host pastor, United Evangelical Church, Four Towns, Uyo, Rev. Christian Effiong, who spoke on the Significance of Easter said Easter validates what the scriptures foretold about the death of Jesus as recorded in Matt: 1:1-2, and Zech:9:9.
He described Easter as a season of reconciliation with the Father, and an opportunity for character transformation and healings at the expense of Jesus on the Cross.
