Hundreds of commercial drivers and the less-privileged within Ogun State have benefited from the free medical outreach organised by Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in its Itori, Ijebu-Ode, Ifo and Mowe unit commands as part of activities to flag off  ’ember’ months campaign.

The medical outreach involves eye tests, blood pressure, sugar level and diabetes screenings.

The campaign theme was: ‘Drive Safe, Stay Safe’ and it served as reminder to all road users the necessity of observing protocols that guaranteed safety of road usage.
Speaking at the event, the Ogun State Sector Commander of FRSC, Corps Commander Ahmed Umar, debunked the rumour by Nigerians that the last four months of the year-September, October, November and December- are accident months.
He said it was the recklessness of drivers that made the rate of road crashes higher during the last four months of the year.
CC Umar, ably represented by Deputy Corps Commander Sunday Adelaja Ogungbemi, identified disobedience to traffic rules and regulations by road users as the cause of many of the crashes on Nigerian roads.
He appealed to road users, especially the motorists, to shun driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, wrongful overtaking, all forms of distraction while on the wheel.
In their welcome address, the Unit Commanders, Ijebu-Ode, Bashiru Adeyemi; Ifo – Joshua Ibitomi; Mowe – Abdullahi Denja and Itori , CRC Augustine Ikwue, said there was no evil attached to the months that increased the accident rate.
They said the FRSC, being a leading agency in traffic administration and management, has over the years, adopted ’ember’ months campaign as a yearly tradition to educate road users on the importance of obeying traffic rules while using the roads.
The Onipapa of Papaland, Oba AbdulRasak Jimoh Famuyiwa, appealed to the FRSC to double efforts in road safety campaigns across all motor parks with full enforcement.
