President Muhammadu Buhari has joined the academia, particularly members of staff of the University of Ibadan and Nigeria Economic Society (NES) in mourning the passing of renowned Economist and administrator, Prof Matthew Olufemi Kayode.
The President commiserated with family of the scholar, his friends and associates, Academic Staff Union of Universities and government and people of Kogi State over the sad loss, describing the economist as an asset to the state, nation and the world, especially the key role he played in the structuring and operations of many development institutions.
President Buhari believed Prof Kayodeโs passion for learning marked him out early for the academia, and his careful choice of research, writing and publishing on development issues, with interest in ameliorating poverty and encouraging growth by building human capacity further reflected his selflessness and kind heart.
The President noted, with commendation, the many contributions of the scholar as first doctoral graduate of the Department of Economics, University of Ibadan, who served in various capacities during his academic career, notably Head of Department of Economics, Pioneer Director of the Consultancy Services Unit of the university and Pioneer Coordinating Director of the Centre for Resource Control & Management (CEREMAC).
The President Buhari prayed that the almighty God will accept the soul of the departed, and comfort his family.
