One of the injured victims of Tuesday’s gas explosion at Ajao Estate, Isolo, has died, raising the death toll to four.
The victim, a tailor, identified simply as Victor, was said to have been inside his workshop next to the gas shop that exploded.
According to residents, about seven persons sustained varying injuries while the gas shop owner, Titilayo Adeyanju, her daughter and one Alfa died on the spot.
A resident, who claimed to have witnessed the blast said, it occurred shortly after Alfa, a welder, came in a tricycle to get industrial gas from Adeyanju.
He said: “The woman has closed her shop when the Alfa came. He was inside a tricycle and urgently wanted gas.
“The woman said they have closed but that since he met them on ground, they will sell to him.
“So, she opened her shop again, sat down while her daughter went to fill the gas for the Alfa. The next thing everyone heard was a bang and fire followed.
“The girl’s head cut off and was found in the next compound. The explosion completely pieced her body.
“The Alfa too was in shreds. Theirs was worse than the woman’s because they were closest to the explosion point.
“Everywhere was in chaos as people started running in different directions. The tricyclist did not die.
“He was able to escape but his tricycle got burnt. It also affected a nearby uncompleted building.”
Director General Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed three cars and three tricycles got burnt in the explosion.
The explosion site has been cordoned off while officials of the Red Cross and police were stationed there.
