Fifty-one coronavirus patients have been discharged so far in Katsina after recovering from the virus.

However, the state has also recorded 13 deaths from the pandemic.

Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health,Dr Kabiru Mustapha, stated this while addressing newsmen with members of the COVID-19 response team.

He explained that 285 positive cases have been recorded by the state as at May 21

According to him: โ€œAs it is, the COVID 19 Committee hold their meetings through the zones and there is no point to connect everybody at the moment. We really are at very serious position, there are alot of cases now to handle.

โ€œWhen we started it was easy to meet and discuss but now it’s just like wild fire.so itโ€™s fire on the mountainโ€™.

โ€œI am just coming from the IDP Centre. If you go there you see people being trained on how to manage the facilities. We are doing training for the handlers, ward attendance and other personnel.โ€

He further admitted that 300 samples are yet to be returned, affecting the committeeโ€™s calculations and challenges as new figures keep streaming in with more samples being sent.

On the 13 recorded deaths so far, he said only five were admitted while the remaining 8 were based on the symptomatic observations carried out after they died and their samples collected and presented to the hospital.

He said: โ€œWe have taken over 1800 samples so far. The isolation centre will be hopefully commissioned today, and once that is done, we will look at structures of things to be there before start using it.

โ€œI would not say the number of Isolation centers we have now is enough, we need more. As at today having completed the ID camp at jibia bypass, we are now moving to Tasha Bala to make another 150 facility centre for any eventuality.

โ€œItโ€™s not that we donโ€™t have enough isolation centre, but let me be frank to you we have very large accommodation, people are complaining that they donโ€™t want to stay there even with all the needed facilities there in.โ€
