The Medical Director, Gbagada General Hospital Lagos, Dr. Adeleke Adesola Kaka, has debunked claims the hospital forcefully discharged patients on Tuesday.
He responsed to The Nation through a telephone interview after a mother complained that her daughter, who was on oxygen was forcefully discharged by nurses on duty.
She further alleged they were told to go home and continue taking medication.
But Kaka said It canโt be true as they are still working and doctors were on ground.
According to him: โThere will be doctors everyday also. Some patients came with some children yesterday for complaints and I told the doctors to carry-on with their duties as work is ongoing.
โThe only thing is that there is non routine clinic for now because we have to scale down a little bit and thatโs not because of anything other than the fact that movement is restricted and some of our staff are not mobile which we are trying to resolve.
โThere is no truth in that story as we didnโt forcefully discharge any patient. We still have babies in our neonatal unit and we are still taking delivery of babies everyday.
โWe also have new admissions and patients in the ward so I donโt see why anyone would say that they were forcefully discharged.
โShe must have left on her own because I donโt know if she wants to go and manage her child by herself at home. I am sure that if her child was really sick. she wouldnโt have left the hospital.โ
The patientโs mum narrated most of the doctors stopped coming and patients were been discharged.
She claimed very few people were still in the hospital with less than five nurses taking care of them all.
โI am not even aware that the hospital is being prepared for an isolation centre. Nothing like that was mentioned there, not even among patients.
โWe were asked by the nurses around to leave and continue our medication at home. No doctor came to discharge us properly.
โMy daughter was still trying to speak well, because she was placed on oxygen. So, why will I just leave the hospital if I wasnโt forced to leave?
โAlthough I was assured by one of the friendly nurses that I can call her number if I notice any deteriorating changes in my daughterโs condition but thatโs not enough.โ
She said her daughter, who was brought in convulsing, was admitted at the emergency ward on Sunday morning and discharged on Tuesday evening.
