COVID-19: Governor Badaru pardons 74 inmates

Governor Muhammed Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa state has pardoned and released no fewer than 74 Inmates serving in various jail terms across correctional centres in the state.

The governor disclosed this while speaking to newsmen in Aujara town, Jahun local government area after the release of the first batch of pardoned inmates.

He said the decision was part of the state government measures to decongest prisons and curb the spread of coronavirus in the state.

Alhaji Muhammadu Bararu Abubakar explained that โ€œthe released convicted people were the once with the minor casesโ€

According to him โ€œthe decongestion of the prison will create social distance which is one of the precaution measures against the spread of COVID-19.

Governor Abubakar added that the government is all out to take any necessary measures that can mitigate any possibility of contracting the disease in the state.

According to him, more inmate with minor cases will be pardon across the state in this critical moment in which coronavirus is ravaging the world.

He emphasized that โ€œthe measures will prevent some countries experience where inmate lost their lives as a result of contracting coronavirus inside the prisons, so we must avoid this unfortunate incident to occur in our nationโ€.

The governor called on the inmates that enjoyed the governmentโ€™s kind gesture to be good ambassadors in enlightening people about the Coronavirus and also to be people of good conduct in the society.
