An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Wednesday remanded a 49-year-old blind beggar, Suleiman Mohammed, for allegedly defiling and assaulting a 13-year-old boy, Rabiu (other name withheld).

The blind beggar, who is a father of seven and two wives, was led into the dock by an aide.

He was arraigned on a two count charge of indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault by penetration before Justice Sybil Nwaka.

The prosecutor, Mr A. O. Alagbe, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence on September 15, 2018 at about 1730 hours at No. 33 Market Street Isale Oja, Agege, Lagos.

Alagbe said that the defendant indecently and sexually assaulted the 13-year-old boy by penetrating his anus.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 135 and 261 of the criminal law, Cap C17, Vol 3 laws of Lagos State 2015.

The mother of the victim who is the complainant in the matter, according to a police report dated September 19, 2018, had reported the incident at Isoko Police Station, Agege.

According to Alagbe: โ€œThe complainant reported that, on that fateful day, she came home and met her son, Rabiu, with his younger brother on the bed covering themselves with a cloth.

โ€œWhen she drew closer to them and removed the cloth, she discovered that Rabiuโ€™s penis was erected and she shouted out of shock.

โ€œShe thereafter asked her son who taught him what he was doing and the boy replied that one Mohammed (defendant), usually puts his penis into his anus and gives him money afterwards.

โ€œThe boy told his mother that the incident happened when he went to drink from the tap and the blind beggar called him into his room, while speaking Hausa language.

โ€œThe boy said that when he came into the room, the suspect removed his clothes and began rubbing his penis all over his body before inserting it into his anus.

โ€œThe boy further told his mother that the blind beggar gave him N100 afterwards. He also said that the suspect, so far, had given him a total sum of N400โ€.

During proceedings Wednesday, the defendant told the court that he has been blind for over 40 years and has two wives with seven children.

Justice Nwaka has adjourned the matter until May 12, 2020 for trial.
