There is no date yet for the reopening of borders that have been partially closed since August, the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), clarified on Sunday.
The clarification came on the heels of a social media report that the borders would be reopened on January 31.
The report referred to a directive by President Muhammadu Buhari to the NCS, setting January 31, 2020, as the terminal date for the border closure.
Responding to the report, the NCS Public Relations Officer, Mr. Joseph Attah, explained that the internal memo the online media quoted did not set any date for the reopening of the borders.
He said the memo was only referring to the terminal date of the joint security outfit, Ex Swift Response.
Attah insisted that the partial border closure would last till the achievement of its set objectives.
โPlease, note that the internal memo is referring to the end of this phase of the joint security Ex Swift Response and not a terminal date for the partial border closure.

It was signed by Comptroller Victor David Dimka, the Comptroller (Enforcement) at the NCS headquarters, on behalf of Deputy Comptroller General (E,I &I) is titled: Re-Extension of Exercise Swift Response.
The memo, dated November 1, 2019, reads: โI am directed to inform you that it is observed that despite the overwhelming success of the operation, particularly the security and economic benefits to the nation, a few strategic objectives are yet to be achieved.
