Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike,

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has inaugurated a task force for the recovery of government property. He urged the members to work diligently for the state.

Wike said several retired Permanent Secretaries and top civil servants are still illegally occupying government quarters. He noted that attempts to ensure that they vacate so that serving officers can reside in such houses have been unsuccessful.

He said: โ€œYou are by this inauguration required to recover all government property illegally occupied by some persons. There are many civil servants who are retired, but are still occupying government buildings years after retirement. This has made it difficult for those in service to have official quarters allocated to them.โ€

The governor told members of the task force that they will face challenges while carrying out their responsibilities, and so advised them to be firm.

He promised them that the government will provide the required security and logistics support to carry out their functions.

Chairman of the panel Rufus Godwins thanked Wike for the confidence reposed in them to carry out the important responsibility.

Godwins, who is also the Head of Service, assured the governor that the team will locate, identify and recover all government properties illegally occupied.
