As part of efforts to sustain a polio-free status in the Bauchi State, the State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BASPHCDA) has flagged off a door-to-door vaccination campaign against polio virus in the state.

The polio campaign would ensure that every child from five years of age and below is captured and vaccinated.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony in Gudun Fulani, a community in Bauchi Local Government Area, yesterday, the Executive Chairman of BASPHCDA, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, said the door-to-door campaign is as a result of low coverage of routine immunisation in some parts of the state, adding that vaccines have been distributed to some strategic locations in some communities.

He said, โ€œWe are here today for the flag-off of polio campaign in the state. The campaign started long time ago and we have distributed all the vaccines to all the locations at the local government level.

โ€œWe chose this place for flagging off because of low coverage of routine immunisation in the area.โ€

Stating that the state has enjoyed a polio-free status for over six years, Mohammed said, โ€œWeโ€™ll make sure that we vaccinate every child in this environment and the whole state because the campaign has been designed to go house-to-house, follow mothers and children in market places, churches and everywhere children from five years and below are found.โ€

The Director, Bauchi Local Government Primary Health Care Development Agency (BALGPHCDA), Alh. Bako Gamow, called on all traditional leaders in the state to support the government in its effort to provide free health care services across board.
