A non-governmental organisation, Anchor Heritage, has lauded the Federal Government for signing into law, the Nigerian Correctional Service Bill to reform the prison system.
The new bill repealed the Nigeria Prisons Act and proclaimed the treatment of prisons as a correctional centers.
Anchor Heritage President Bidemi Oladipupo said the governmentโs move aligned with the vision and plans of the group.
โOur organisation has embarked on empowerment programmes across prisons in the Southwest and Northcentral, empowering over 400 inmates as part of our contributions to the prison reform process,โ he said.
He called on the Federal Government to partner the private sector in providing services for congested Nigerian prisons in line with global best practices.
โWe believe that empowered inmates will re-integrate easily into the society to become productive citizens,โ he said.
