The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has charged Nigerian youths to live their lives positively bearing in mind that the future of Nigeria lies in their hands.

Maguโ€™s charge was made on his behalf by the Zonal Head of the Commission in the South East, Usman Imam on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, during a one โ€“day sensitisation programme against social vices in tertiary institutions of learning (Campus Focus), organised by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) which held at the International Conference Center of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, Enugu State.

โ€œIn every society, the youths determine the direction the society or nation is headed, either towards progress or doom; especially by the product of tertiary institutions,โ€ he stated.

He warned students to desist from indulging in any form of corruption so as to safeguard not only their future but also that of the country. His words: โ€œ Between January and today, we have arrested so many young persons, mostly students, and they have been prosecuted and convicted on cyber crimes (Yahoo-Yahoo).

โ€œNow, the danger is that every youth arrested, prosecuted and convicted is finished. When you carry the stigma of a criminal conviction on your head, it goes to say that you are not employable in the public sector, it goes to show that you cannot participate in politics, it goes to show that you are a waste , so to speakโ€, he added.

Magu while blaming parents for negligence said they must inculcate the tenets of hard work on their children as there are no easy monies to be made.

Earlier in his welcome address, the State Director of NOA, Isaac Onukwube said the Campus Forum programme was designed to provide an interactive platform to sensitise and encourage students of tertiary institutions to shun all forms of social vices and imbibe desirable behaviour necessary for national development.

Also speaking at the event, the Director General of N.O.A, Dr. Garba Abari, represented by Dr. Emma Abah, said the Campus Focus programme with the theme: โ€œDo The Right Thingโ€ is targeting students because of their positions as future leaders. He lamented the level of cultism and internet fraud related cases among student of tertiary institutions, saying “the country is in trouble unless something is done”.
